Photography Gallery Four by Phil Varner (homepage)
These photos where taken in New York City in July 2000. I went up to visit a friend over the July 4th extended weekend. It was my first trip to NYC, so I didn't take as many photos as I would have liked.

"Abstract Cigarette"

I took this photo with the camera by my side. I just happened to capture the hand and cig in the corner, which I find really amazing. This is one of my favorite photos.

"Dried Fish"

Fish outside a Russian market.

"Firehouse"

A random firehouse I encountered.

"Homeless"

Another side-shot photo. I think it is interesting, because of the tall office buildings towering over this homeless person, more than just metaphorically.

"Homeless Mobile 1"

This is just one of "only in New York" things. This guy had built this gigantic contraption for an "Intergalactic Mission." It was even better in person.

"Homeless Mobile 2"

Another View

"Living Room"

This is where I stayed in NYC. It looked like it was right out of an interior design catalog and was right on the Hudson. The primary renter of the place was out of town that weekend riding dirt bikes with Lyle Lovett.

"Mmm... Pork"

Irony. If you look at the billboard in front of the shop, it's for vegetarian burgers.

"Saxophone"

A guy playing the sax near a subway stop.

"Shoes"

The friend I was saying with moved across the street from this the day I left. I think it's pretty interesting to think about all the people who've worn those shoes.

"Going Home"

The plane ride home.
